Weekly Update for Friday, September 15, 2017

OPEN SHIFTS: Still need an EMT for Sunday, September 24th, 0700-1900.
----
GREAT JOB: Last Saturday night we had a room & contents fire at 682 S. Waterboro Rd. Lyman. I can't say strong enough how impressed I was with the work you all did.  The first arriving crew on E83 did a terrific job getting a line pulled and made entry very effectively. Lt.  Martin did a perfect job with his size-up and reports. Also...early last Tuesday morning we had a rather "unique" MVA on Route 5. And at the same time a Delta level EMS call in Balsam St.  Two rather difficult calls, but they were handled promptly and professionally.  Thank you!
----
CAR WASH:  What a success! You may have seen the Facebook post we raised $2400!  Thanks everyone who came down to help out and to Lt Daniels for organizing it all.
----
NEW MEMBERS:  I want to welcome two new members. Sandy Guillemette. Who is an Advanced EMT and works per diem for Northeast Ambulance. Sandy lives on the Howitt Road.
Andy Wade, who is a former call firefighter from New Hampshire. Andy lives on the Danley Road.
----
MX207:  Races all weekend. Practice sessions started this morning.  Northeast will have two trucks on site, neither of which are transporting.  We will provide BLS transport this weekend, Waterboro will provide ALS transport.  We have identified a Lifeflight landing zone at 2 Wakefield Road, Hollis. Which is about 100 feet in from Route 202. This LZ has been marked on the I Am Responding Map.   Also, when we're coordinating the day's coverage for MX207, Northeast is supposed to be calling our station (not fire alarm). The on-duty EMT should be completing the IAP and coordinating with Waterboro and Northeast. The provide the IAP to fire alarm. See SOG 3343.
----
AMBULANCE INSPECTIONS: The Maine EMS bureau was here last Wednesday to conduct the annual inspection of our ambulances. No discrepancies.
----
TURF FARM HYDRANT: Back in Service.  Thank you to Capt Lang and Lt Roma for organizing the repair party.  Sam at the Turf Farm helped out with providing an excavator.
----
EMS CONTINUAL QUALITY IMPROVEMENT (CQI): Last Monday the CQI committee met with Nate Yerxa from APEMS. Nate is the EMS Region 1 QA specialist.  Nate showed us how to use the CQI tools in Image Trend to create efficient work flows for completing QA checks on medical calls. The Deputy has created our forms and worksheets in Image Trend. I'm hoping that within the next month we'll begin provide CQI feedback.
----
MEDICATIONS:  As you may be aware, the 1 for 1 drug box exchange at the hospitals is going into effects on Monday, September 18th.  This change only effects non-controlled medications (Drug box and out-of-drug box meds).  It also means we will now manage our own drug boxes. I am in the process of updating Directive 2341/Handling and Accountability of Controlled and Non-Controlled Medications.  We will also be scheduling training for the Pyxis machine at SMHC.
----
TRUCK CHECKS, EQUIPMENT CHECKS, STATION CHECKS, ETC: We've got to get better at this. The two reasons we do these checks are; 1) Make sure things are where they are supposed to be. 2) Make sure that they are in working order.  If something is a miss, fix it. If you can't fix it, open a work order. If for what ever reason, you can't complete a task on a check list, say why it wasn't done.  If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, regarding check lists, please come see me or Lt Sarto.
----
EMA FIRST RESPONDER OPEN HOUSE: York County EMA is hosting an open house on September 21st from 1000-1900. This open house is geared towards 1st Responders.  Door prizes will be given!
----
COUNTY TEAMS:  YC EMA is looking for volunteers to serve on the HAZMAT Team, Incident Communications Team and/or the Incident Management Assistance Team. These teams have some great training opportunities and involvement is large scale exercises state-wide. Not too mention, preparation for a large scale incident in Southern Maine. If you're interested in serving on one of these teams, contact Art Cleaves, EMA Director at 324-1571.
