PROTOCOL TRAIN-THE-TRAINER: October 12, 1300-1700 at Biddeford FD.
----
PATIENT RESTRAINTS, Protocol Brown 24: I'm sure you are all aware of the patient shoulder restraints on the stretchers. Protocol and Maine EMS rules requires their use. Make sure you use them. Also, the crew is required to be belted in the back of the ambulance. As long as being belted doesn't interfere with patient care.  Please take note of the following from Maine EMS:
"In the spirit of safety for providers and patients, MEMS will begin spot checks on arriving ambulances at different hospitals throughout the state over the next few months to ensure compliance with the seat belt and patient restraint requirements of the Pre-Hospital Treatment Protocols and the MEMS Rules. If MEMS finds that providers are not in compliance, this will result in a one-time reminder to the service and providers of the MEMS Rules, after which this will be dealt with as a violation of MEMS laws and rules."
