Weekly Update for Friday, May 27,2016

OPEN SHIFTS: July 9 0700-1900; July 30 0700-1900.
----
Memorial Day Parade:  This Monday. Line up is a noon. Drivers are needed for apparatus.   Thank you to the Juniors, Mike Lord and Chad Johnston for getting the grave marker flags placed.
----
Lieutenant Appointments: Congratulations to our newest Lieutenants. Lt Steiner, C Co. Officer, and Lt Martin, B Co. Officer.
----
Captain Appointments: I have decided to hold off on appointing Captains for the moment. We had two very dedicated and motivated applicants, however, I feel I that if I were to appoint them, I'd be setting them up for failure.  In administration and leadership both are very capable.  In the tactical area, being a fireground officer, division, branch or sector officer, I haven't done a proper job of preparing them for those roles. Over the next few months, I'm going to define tactical learning requirements for each officer rank. The desired "Knowledge, Skills and Abilities" for each. Then training tasks will be assigned. Officers will have a green book too.  We'll look at another promotion process this fall.
----
Hiring Process:  We have several candidates for the full-time list and per diem. Several new call force applicants as well.  Testing day is Saturday June 11.   Since the article in the newspaper last week, we've had a lot of interest in fire-police. I've received 3 applications.
----
Firefighter Cancer: Tonight on Channel 6, Amanda Hill is doing a piece on firefighter cancer.  She's going to talk about why its important to wash your turnout gear!
----
Safety Stand Down:   The week of June 19th.  I'm still looking for some volunteer to organize some department events for project. http://www.safetystanddown.org/
