Weekly Update for Friday, February 10, 2017

OPEN SHIFTS: February:  Mon 2/20 0700-1300.  Sat 2/25 1900-0700 (must be EMT).  March: Sat 3/11 0700-1900. Thu 3/30 0700-1900.
Ice Fishing Derby tomorrow morning: Need setup and registration help starting a 0415. Any help you can provide throughout the day would be very much appreciated. Derby runs until 1400. Weather is expected to be seasonal for February in Maine!
Ambulance 86: It arrived at the dealer's today. We'll start gathering the equipment this weekend, which means taking Rescue 86 out of service. I'm guessing we should have the new ambulance here by the end of the month.
NVFC: Firefighters/EMTs: Take care of your health so you can be there for all those who depend on you.
The EMR-ISAC InfoGram for February 9, 2017 contains the following articles:
1. S&T Technologies Meet Critical Response Needs
2. Tribal Mitigation Plan Review, Upcoming Webinars
3. National Advisory Council Seeking Applications
4. Webinar: Ventura County Violent Incident Response
Jaffrey Valve:  Last couple weeks I've asked some questions around the jaffrey valve. Last week I received 3 responses. All good answers.  The jaffrey valve is on the INTAKE or SUCTION side of the pump. It's function is to protect the pump from being over pressurized when fed from another pumper or hydrant. So, it will never be used on a discharge side of a pump.  Engines 81, 84 and Ladder 82 have jaffrey valves. Why doesn't Engine 83? or does it?
Maine EMS Run Reporting System Update: From Maine EMS Bureau: In light of recent feedback our office has received from services and providers, the decision has been made to change the 2017 rollout process of the Elite Run Reporting System.  A staggered implementation will begin on March 1st; services which would like to change to the Elite system may begin to do so on that date.  On April 1st one third of the remaining services will begin to be rolled over, in alphabetical order, with an additional third going live each month thereafter.  All services will be live in Elite on June 1, 2017.  Any agency that feels they are ready to proceed to Elite before their scheduled implementation date, may communicate this to Maine EMS and their transition can be moved ahead.  Please see the attached list for your agencies planned roll-out date.  Training will be available soon on MEMSEd for service administrators and providers to become more familiar with the system.  We will advise agency administrators when the training becomes available. Any agency wishing to move forward with the March 1, 2017 implementation will need to contact Maine EMS. For more information, please pay attention to your email, our website ( and our social media accounts.
