New Live-in Student: From the student draft last weekend we chose Lisa Eichel to be our next live- in student. Captain Duross has been in touch with FF Eichel and she has accepted the position.  Lisa is a Firefighter II, with the West Newbury & Merrimac, Mass., call forces. She is an EMT-B and works for Cataldo Ambulance. She is actually a second year fire science student, having completed her freshman year at Northern Essex Community College.  I anticipate that she'll move in in early August.  In other student news; Issiac Hooper was drafted by the Gorham FD.
----
Chief Officer Assignments:  Assistant Chief Ben Harris has been selected for promotion to Deputy Chief (Chief 8-2) with administrative assignment as Chief Personnel Officer. Captain Matt Duross has been selected for promotion to Assistant Chief (Chief 8-3) with administrative assignment as Chief Operating Officer. These appointments are effective at 0001, July 1, 2018.
----
Line Officer promotions: I am working on a process for the selection of line officers to fill current vacancies. Please review Directive 2215 for training requirements.
----
Town Meetings: Each town will be holding their town meetings on June 14th. Unfortunately, that is the same night as Massabesic's graduation. I'll be at graduation. DChf Johnston will be our spokesman in Lyman and AChf Harris in Dayton.
----
State Fire Marshal's Visit: Wednesday night the State Fire Marshal, Chief Joe Thomas, made a presentation to the Lyman Planning Board. The topic was home sprinkler systems. His presentation was very well received and some very encouraging discussion took place. I have been tasked to prepare a change to the zoning ordinance that would require residential sprinklers in all newly constructed homes in Lyman.
-----
Training Requirements: The Training Officer and Company Officers met Wednesday night and have set some requirements for training/company meeting attendance. Attending these functions is mandatory. In order for any of us to remain confident, competent and ready to serve, we've got to stay up-to-date on our skills and what's going on in our profession, our department and in our community. Directive 2201/Training Program has been updated and General Notice 1557 has been posted. Unexcused absence from training & company meetings is unacceptable. Only your Company Officer can excuse you from attending.

Firefighter Near Miss: Report #1 from 1984 – Garage Door Closes Trapping FF
“We arrived on the scene of a single-story, wood frame house, with a kitchen fire on the back of the house. A 1½” hoseline was taken in through the garage to fight the fire from the kitchen door. My partner went back outside to pull more hose. Then it became very dark. I followed the hoseline again but found the garage door closed. My alarm started to go off. Exterior crews made a hole in the door, and I was pulled out. After I was out the garage door went back up.”
