Engine 83: It's back in service. Ladder 82 will be going out for maintenance in a week or two.
----
Training in the heat:  My hat's off to the group who braved the heat and humidity this morning to do hose advancement training.  Good job!
----
GMFRA RAFFLE:  The GMFRA is raffling off a New Ruger 308 Rifle with scope. The rifle was donated by the Bars Open Farm Gun Shop of Lyman. Tickets should be in this week. Please see Lt. Daniels for a book of them. This rifle will be on display soon at a location yet to be determined.  The raffle drawing will be held at 4pm on October 27, 2016.
----
Dayton Community Day: Saturday, August 27th  1400-1700 at the Dayton School. We've been asked to provide some vehicles for "Touch-a-Truck".
----
Apparatus Safety: I'm sure everyone knows that we don't operate or ride in vehicles without wearing seat belts. We know we don't ride on the exterior of fire apparatus. We stay clear of moving apparatus. Common sense stuff. What about when we're driving the apparatus?   One hand on the steering wheel at the 5 o'clock position, left arm hanging out the window. Slouched in the driver's seat. We look cool because we got our shades on!  These aren't good. Both hands on the wheel, 10 and 2 o'clock. Sitting upright paying very close attention to what's going on. Situational awareness. Yes, it applies to driving too.  The public views you as a professional emergency vehicle operator. Look the part. Drive the part. You are driving a vehicle worth tens or hundreds of thousands of tax payer dollars. It's not a Prius! It weighs tens of thousands of pounds. It doesn't stop easily. Take care of it! Be safe with it.  Speed is not your friend. Safety is.  Remember, we're being watched.

----
Medication Vault: A knox box style narcotics vault has been installed in Rescue 85. It works the same as a knox box. Please take a look at it, make sure your PIN will open it.
----
New Electric Chain Saw: An electric chain saw has been added to Engine 83. This saw will run of the truck's generator. This was is NOT a ventilation saw. It's intended for use as a forestry saw. Limbing, removing small growth etc. With it is a helmet w/ face protection and chaps.
----
Hydrants:  We have some out of service hydrants at the moment. Some because of low water, others require repairs. Captain Lang will be asking for some help in the near term to make repairs.
----
Apron Red Light: It is operational. Please activate it when departing the station on calls.  Lt Martin is looking into a better, more visible, light to replace the current beacon with.
----
Bike Race: On August 28th another bicycle race will be going through town.  Route 5 North, to Route 35 South, to John St., to South Waterboro Rd to Route 202.  This year, the rest/aid stop won't be at the intersection of 5 and 35.  It will most likely be at the Fish & Game parking lot. We've been asked to provide traffic control on both ends of John Street.
----
Call  Volume: In July we ran 65 calls. So far in August we've run 35 calls.  Since January 1st we've run 434 calls for service.
----
Events Next Week: Tuesday Training 1830; Thursday Joint Select Board meeting 1830 Lyman Town Hall.
----
Out of Town: I will be out of town Sunday through Wednesday for the Navy.

Have  a great weekend,
Chief
