----
New EVO1:  Joe Demers and Shevaughn Shay are now qualified as an EVO1.
----
End of Semester: The fall semester ends on Friday 12/16. Christmas break begins then too. FF Jason Willette has decided to leave the program and return to his home state of Vermont at the end of this semester. Jason...we wish you all the best in your future endevours. You're always welcome here in Goodwins Mills. FF Nicki Fowlie and FF Joe Demers will be remaining with us through next semester. We will be interviewing students from the "free agent" list to fill Jason's slot.
----
Evening Text Message:  In addition to the morning text message, we've started sending out an update text at 1930. Primarily, as a reminder that may not have a live-in EVO1 during Christmas college break. We will need a call force driver to respond.
----
Maintenance Planner:  Rob Smith has re-joined the department. Rob's function will be planning our equipment maintenance. He'll work for LT Johnston to create a life cycle maintenance plan for our apparatus and power equipment. He'll also be working on developing preventive maintenance checks for all equipment.
----
Blood Drive:  Tomorrow 0900-1400.  If you could give an hour or so to help with registration, canteen, etc, that would be greatly appreciated. But, most of all, give a pint!
----
Santa Clause visit and Christmas Tree Lighting:  This event runs from 1600-1800 tomorrow. I want to thank Captain Lang and his band of elves for getting the Christmas lights up. They look great!
----
Squad 87:  For the winter the pump and tank will be drained. General Notice 16-1446 refers.
----
Rescue 86:  Rescue 86 will be front line for a few weeks. Mainly to help lighten the load for R85. General Notice 16-1445 refers.
----
Basic Fire School:  Preparations are still underway to get this going in January. An organizational meeting for students and instructors has been scheduled for 1800 on 12/22. Contact LT Sarto if you have any questions.
----
Commercial Driver's Licences:  By the end of 2017, all EVO3's will be required to obtain a CDL. General Notice 16-1445 refers. In 2018 this requirement will be extended to EVO2's as well.  Over the next year CDL preparation classes and training will become part of our regular training schedule. It is my intention to provide opportunities for each of us to prepare for the written and road tests. The department will cover the cost of your CDL test.  My reason for making CDL's a requirement is to make us all better EVO's and better manage our risk.
----
Self-Assessments:  If you've heard any rumors that I'm going to start having everyone do a self-assessment on their activity in the department, well, you've heard right. The Officers are doing a test run on completing self-assessments right now.  You've heard me talk before about "Minimum Activity Levels". Where we give points for call response, training, meetings, etc. Doing that has not had the desired out come. So, I've removed the Minimum Activity Levels (Directive 2102) and will replace it with a program where we each do a Self-Assessment on our contributions to the department and community. More to follow. If you have any questions, please ask.
----
Company Meetings:  If anyone has any ideas or suggestions on how we can make company meetings better, more productive and worthwhile, please come see me or your company officer or send us an e-mail.  What can we do to make better use of your time?
----
Annual Core Training:  That time of year is fast approaching. January training will be the BLS requirements. We'll get a schedule out soon.
----
Annual Awards:  Think back on 2016. Who in our department is deserving of special recognition? Nominate a deserving member for a service award.  CLICK HERE to link to the nomination site.
----
Mandatory Reporter:  All EMTs should have completed this on-line training by now.  Remember, we have a legal obligation, not to mention a moral obligation, to report suspect abuse. Elder, child, domestic, etc.  If we suspect it, we have to report it to DHHS. Document it in your PCR, call DHHS yourself, or I'll make the report for you.
----
Lifeflight:  If you haven't heard, Lifeflight will be basing a helicopter and ground ambulance at the Sanford Airport. The operational goal is January 15th.  An open house is being planned for February.
----
Grant:  We've received a grant from the Firefighter Support Foundation to purchase a thermal imaging camera. Captain Duross will be getting some quotes together. The grant is for $5500.
----
Call Volume:  This week be broke 700 calls for service.
----
Resesrves:  I'll be out of town from the 12th through the 14th.
----
Go Navy! Beat Army! Yes, the Army/Navy game is this weekend! Navy is undefeated going on 15-years!
----
Have a good weekend,
Chief
