Maine CDL Requirements: A CDL is required to qualify as an EVO3. Directive 2202/EVO: Section 4.3.2(b); Beginning, January 1, 2017, any new EVO3 candidates must obtain a Maine Class B/Commercial Driver’s License, prior to final or provisional qualification as an EVO3. Soon, my intention is to make a CDL for EVO2 qualification as well.

Sanford Voc. Fire & EMS visiting SMCC: Next Tuesday, 11/21/17 31 students from Sanford High School RVC's Fire-EMS classes, along with their instructors Capt. Smith and Ms. Elliot, plan to visit SMCC for a briefing on Fire Science, Paramedicine and the Live-In program. Right now we do not have any live-in fire-EMS representatives scheduled to assist. Help is needed with the briefing.
They'll start @ Howe Hall Room 205 @ 0930 hours. A few very quick PPT slides, then ask you'all to share your experiences, then do a fun activity (probably the "Build a Tower" one) and answer questions. At 1030 we'll take them to the Paramedicine building for a briefing. At 1130 hours we'll have lunch @ the Dining Hall (you're invited!)

After action reviews: The good, the bad, and why we should care? Work within the fire service involves frequent encounters with occupational hazards. Many fire departments try to minimize accidents and injuries through after action reviews (AARs). A recent study explored what makes for a good or bad after action review, what makes a review satisfying to attendees, and its impact on group safety norms. The study also looked at the effects of good attendee behavior on positive outcomes for AARs in high-reliability organizations. Read the research summary / Request the article

MEFIRS UPDATES:
To assist in the Spinal Motion Restriction “Cause of Injury” field on MEFIRS. This change is being made today and could continue into tomorrow. I have posted a spreadsheet on the bulletin board of the values that will be covered in the new list. In most cases, current values will remain, but, the options presented to the provider will change. It will follow similar formatting to the primary impression list, with a main category (or first tier hierarchy) and a subcategory (second tier hierarchy). For example: “Asphyxiation due to being trapped in a car trunk” will now read “Asphyxiation – Car Trunk”. When referring to the attached spreadsheet, columns A & B will be in the list.

Maine EMS staff has been working on a new patient care reporting form for providers to document the patient care they provide. In early September Maine EMS provided this form to select agencies to test and provide feedback. As a result of their feedback and input, we were able to implement additional features and enhancements. Some of the improvements to the new patient care reporting form are:
Improved logical workflow.
Created visibility rules that will hide sections, panels or fields when they do not apply.
Added new fields that will improve data collection and reporting to the Cardiac Arrest Resuscitation to Enhance Survival (CARES) database.
Implemented changes to the validation rule point scores to reflect the critical nature of some fields. (These adjustments will be on-going).
This new form is now available for training and testing on the training provider login. To view this new form, navigate to www.mefirs.org and use the following credentials:
Username: Training
Password: Provider1!
This form will be available on the training username until December 4th 2017. On December 4th the new form will be available for “production” use Statewide. The current patient care reporting form will also be available for production use until 01/01/2018, at which time the new patient care report form will be the only form available. We hope to reduce provider anxiety regarding the new form by leaving both available for the month of December. Please ask your providers to review the new form prior to December 31st 2017.
