Monument Upgrade:  The family of Emery and Theresa Mitchell made a donation to the GMFRA. That money is going to be used to upgrade the monument at the station. Lt Daniels is heading up this project. Last week we met with the family to go over the concept with them. They were very appreciative and rather excited about what's being planned.  As a part of the plan, the GMFRA will be taking donations for bricks to be engraved as a memorium to whom ever you would like. These bricks will go on sale in January.  The goal is to have this project completed by June 7, 2019, in time for the GMFD's 70th anniversary.  The committee is working on a drawing of the concept, which should be available soon.

Internet Use Policy: Regulation 1402.  I want to be sure everyone understands our policy on internet use, video's, pictures and social media.  No one is attempting to stifle anyone's 4th amendment rights. What you do at your home, on your time, with your devices is your business. What you do on-line at the fire station, on FD time, or with FD equipment (which includes the FD wifi, and network) is FD business. My business. Even if you use your personal device. These rules exist because of laws around what is a public document.  Public documents are public property. I suggest everyone read Section 7 of Regulation 1402.  Certain types of websites are prohibited to view on department internet. Inappropriate sites of sexual content, illegal content, violent content, gambling or personal profit are prohibited. If you have any questions, please come see me.  Remember, we operate on the public trust. Public trust is very very fragile. It doesn't take much to damage that trust.

Green Books: When is the last time you looked at your "green book"?  Those books have training objectives with target dates for completion.
----
Firefighter Life Safety Initiatives: 9. Fatality, Near-Miss Investigation. Thoroughly investigate all firefighter fatalities, injuries, and near-misses. How many firefighters are killed in the U.S. each year? Nearly 100. 86 so far in 2017, 56 were volunteers. In 2012, the National Fire Protection Association estimated that more than 69,000 firefighters were injured on the job. The NFPA believes that their estimate is accurate to +/- 6.5%. This is a projection, not an actual number – we’re really not sure how many firefighters were injured in 2012. We don’t truly know how many actual injuries there were, and we certainly have no idea how many near-miss (or near-hit) incidents occurred. Initiative #9 asks us to learn from our mistakes—the only way to do this is to thoroughly investigate every near-miss, significant injury or fatality.
