Congratulations: FF Issiac Hooper who has graduated to the ranks of the Juniors' to Senior Firefighter. Issiac is a FF1 through the Sanford RTC program. He is currently enrolled in the Basic EMT program at SRTC.

Winter College Break: The students are on winter break until January 15th. A call force driver is needed for all calls.

Firefighter I & II Academy: The York County Class of 2018 started this past Wednesday. 20 students are enrolled in this year's Academy. Our Sandy Guillemette was seated in the front row. We will be asked to supply apparatus & drivers, assistant instructors, etc. over the next few months.

Live Fire Burn: We have a building to use for training for the next few weeks. On Saturday, January 6th we will conduct some live fire training and burn the building. There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board. Please sign up to attend this training.

Engineer Qualification: We are working on updating the qualification requirements for Engineers. My intentions are to make Engineers more of a training certification/qualification rather than an appointed position. At a minimum, Engineers would be required to have a CDL, EVO3 qualified, be a certified Fire Instructor, complete selected advanced pumps and water supply classes along with other requirements. These requirements will soon be published in a directive similar to the line officer requirements. If anyone has any input, suggestions or comments on Engineer qualifications, please come talk with me.

Next Chief's Call: Tuesday, January 30th. Officers at 1800, all hands at 1900. Saco PD Deputy Chief Corey Huntress will be providing a class on sexual harassment. This training is mandatory for everyone. Considering some internal events over the summer and fall, along with the national climate on the subject, I thought it was time we had a conversation on this topic. We all need to be on the same page as to what sexual harassment, and harassment in general, is and what it isn't.
From the National Firefighter Code of Ethics: "Never harass, intimidate or threaten fellow members of the service or the public and stop or report the actions of other firefighters who engage in such behaviors."
