Weekly Update for Sunday, December 31, 2017. New Year's Eve

Sorry for getting this out late. I spend Friday and Saturday morning getting my water pipes thawed. Long sad story. I know I don't have to tell anyone that it's cold. Please make sure you dress for the weather.  Any extended calls, we need to think about a second rehab ambulance, a rehab bus (Biddeford or Waterboro) or the county command van as a rehab priority. Circulate water in pumps, leave lines cracked open. Look out for each other. Brush up on the cold weather injury protocol. (Yellow 7)

End of  2017:  As the year comes to an end, I want to thank each of you for your commitment to our communities.  At a quick glance, you've answered over 765 calls for service, treated nearly 500 patients. We've done some remarkable new things in 2017, while maintaining our traditions. Above all your professionalism has been second to none. Everyone had a hand in placing the new ambulance in service. We've added a Service Medical Director and have set the ground work for a relevant continuous quality improvement program. We added a Chaplain to our ranks. In an era where many departments are having serious staffing issues, we seem to be holding our own. Each of you have a hand in that. Thank you.

Recent calls: To the crew that braved the -6 degrees at 0500 to assist our neighbors in Waterboro last week, thanks! Once again, you represented Goodwins Mills very well.  Last Thursday evening, we headed to a call for smoke in the house. Smoke detectors once again proved their worth! The post on our Facebook page has the details. Saturday evening we responded to our first chimney fire for this winter. FF Jake Cole was the IC and did a terrific job managing the incident.
