Weekly Update for Friday, March 15, 2019, SUPPLEMENTAL

When I wrote my blog last Friday, I wanted to put some perspective on the events of the past few weeks. I guess I had "writers block". This morning I had some time to ponder the events and put things into some sort of perspective.  For countless times in my career, I saw the brotherhood come together. I saw us all come together for a heroic Line of Duty Death of Capt. Joel Barnes. I attended a funeral service for a retired Saco Firefighter, Capt. Dana Ronco, and then service this weekend for Chief Gary Sacco of the Oxford FD. Quite and emotional and moving month March 2019 has turned out to be.
Twenty-three of our members, 50% of our organization, attended or helped to organize the service for Capt Barnes. A great number of you took a turn at standing vigil over Capt Barnes remains. During the day of the services for Capt Barnes, we sent half our department to pay respects and still covered 5 calls in our own Town and a mutual aid town. During the services for Capt Ronco, we covered the City of Saco with an ambulance. We sent a delegation of 6 to attended services for Chief Sacco. I want to thank each of you who stepped up to show support and respect for our fallen and their families.
I hope each of you would take a few minutes to listen to the speech made by Chief Jeff Rowe at Capt. Barnes service. Chief Rowe spoke about the fire service in general terms. I think he summed up our profession, spot on.  This link will take you to the service, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bY_ockstzOg  Chief Rowe's speech starts at 2:42:25.
Thank you for making the sacrifices to be apart of the brotherhood, sisterhood too. Thank you for what you do for our community, every day.

With respect and admiration,
Chief Hooper
