Congratulations to FF Jake Cole! Jake has been offered a position with the Portland Fire Department (conditional, pending physical). Jake started with us as a student in 2013. He was our fifth live-in student. To my knowledge, he may be the only student we've had make the Dean's List. In October of 2015, we hired Jake full-time. I haven't received Jake's "official notice". Yet, in anticipation of that, we have posted a hiring process to create a future hire list. If you're interested in applying and meet the minimum requirements a packet is posted on our website.

Resignation: I spoke with Lt Sarto this afternoon. He verbally resigned for family reasons.

First Responder Breakfast: Saturday, 3/17, from 0800 to 1100 at the South Waterboro Bapist Church, 911 Main St. (Route 202) S. Waterboro. It's free for first responders.

Rapid Intervention Course at GMFR: On April 27, 28, 29 we will host MFSI's pilot course "Rapid Intervention Team Training". We need 16 students to run the course. A sign up is posted on the bulletin board. The state's RIT Training prop will be used during the training. FMI: See Captain Daniels.

Budget Process: We've had a pretty smooth and cooperative budget process this year. What I feel is different this year; there has been a lot of thought put into priorities and alternatives. The priority seems to be overnight staffing. I'm pretty confident that will be going to Town meeting for the voters to decide. A tanker is off the table this year. However, I we've made progress on creating a solid plan for apparatus replacement. The idea of purchasing a used quint and refurbish it is still moving forward. On Monday, I will ask to Selectmen to vote to release funds and authorize me to purchase Burlington, Vermont's former Engine 2 and refurbish it.
Overall, it's been encouraging.

Fire Commission: There are rumors abound that the Boards of Selectmen are going to abolish the Fire Commission. This isn't true. It would require a vote at Town meeting to abolish the Commission. However, the make-up of the Commission is going to change. I haven't been given any specifics on what that make-up will be.

Acquired Structure: We have a building to use at 2090 Alfred Road for the next few weeks to train with. This morning I signed the release document with the owner. Company Officers please get with Capt Daniels and plan some training events at this building.

EMS Symposium: April 11, 0900-1630. South Portland High School. A flyer is on the bulletin board. Topics are; Chemical Suicide, Thoracic Trauma, Illicit Drug Recognition and Airway 2.0. So far, two of you have signed up to attend. We get a discount if we send 4 or more. CEH's are being awarded! If your interested submit a training request in Datatrac.

Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD): Similar to Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), EFD protocols have been implemented in fire alarm. There are still several glitches being worked out. Patience please. If apparatus assignments don't seem to match the call, officers need to make the appropriate decisions. You will also start hearing response levels (A, B, C, D, E) assigned to fire calls. Expect to see some changes in the text messages as well. Stand by, more to follow.
