Congratulations!  FF Corey Boucher has passed the Firefighter I written exam! Corey also passed the CDL general knowledge test this week. Also, he qualified as an EVO1.
----
Promotion: Please join me congratulating Captain Phil Daniels. Capt. Daniels was select for promotion a year ago when he was assigned as the Training Officer. He had some training requirements to complete to be eligible for promotion in rank. Last month he completed those requirements. Captain Daniels will continue to serve as training officer. His radio number is Captain 8-6.
----
Office Changes: Room 109, formally the "Admin Office" is now redesignated as the "Training Office".
----
Spring Break:  Students are on Spring break this week.
----
Legislative Update: LD1845 is a bill before the legislature that will fund upgrades to the 6 existing firefighter training facilities in Maine. (Hollis being one of them.)  Expand the number of sites around the state with the goal of having 90% of Maine's firefighters within an hour's drive to a training facility. The bill calls for $1 million per year for the next 10 years.  This has been a fire service goal in Maine for my entire adult life. On Tuesday I testified before the joint legislative committee on Education and Cultural Affairs. The room was packed. No one spoke in opposition to the bill. The bill passed committee unanimously! There are still 3 hurdles that remain. Full vote of the State Senate and House. The Governor has to sign it. Then is has to pass in the Appropriations Committee. We've still got a lot of work to do.  But, this is the furthest along we've ever got with this project.
----
Member changes:  Engineer Gregg Robert resigned for family reasons. Mike Reynolds has rejoined and we have one new applicant in the interview process.
----
Emergency vehicle and roadway operations safety: Sixteen percent of on-duty firefighter fatalities occur each year while responding to or returning from incident. Vehicle collision is the second leading cause of firefighter fatalities. Spend some time brushing up on best practices & recommendations for safer emergency vehicle & roadway incident response. https://twitter.com/i/web/status/971825554067480576
