Congratulations: FF Jake Cole has been hired by the Portland Fire Dept. Jake's last full-time shift with us will be Monday, April 16th. Jake will be remaining on the call force.

Per Diem Vacancy: We currently have a templeted per diem shift vacancy. Please contact the Deputy if you're interested.

Full-time Vacancy: Applications are being excepted for a full-time FF/EMT vacancy. We will also be creating a list for anticipated future vacancies. Applications are due by 1700 on Monday, April 9. Internal applicants are required to submit a complete application and letter of intent. Please read the Chief's memo dated 3/16/2018 posted on the bulletin board.

Student Update: FF Nicki Fowlie has left the live in program. Nicki will be continuing on in SMCC's paramedic program and will remain on our call force. Nikole St. Germain is our one remaining student. We will recruit a replacement for Nicki Fowlie's slot during the student draft in June. My intentions are to host two students (instead of 3) in the fall semester.

Quint: I have signed the bill of sale for Burlington's quint. I'm looking for a drivers with CDL's to go to Vermont next week to drive the truck home.

Training Opportunities: Several upcoming training announcements are posted on the bulletin board.
Including a sign-up sheet for our RIT class on April 27, 28 & 29. Four people have signed up. We need 16.
We have an acquired structure to train in. Capt. Daniels has scheduled various topics and training sessions to be held on Tuesday nights through April. A schedule and sign up sheet will be posted soon. We will be doing live fire training and burn the building on May 6th.

Burning Permits: We are going to be changing how we issue burning permits. We will begin using a website called the Warden's Report. www.wardensreport.com This site will allow citizens to log on and request a permit without having to drive to the station or pay $7. The Warden's Report will automatically post the location of the permit on I Am Responding. More information to come and we'll be scheduling some training on the new system.

Safety: March has been a tough month for the fire service. There have been 11 line of duty deaths this month. Many of these incidents occurred in communities just like ours. Five members of the Pratt (WV) VFD didn't go home after the call...
Incident Description: Assistant Fire Chief Michael Edwards and Lieutenant Tom Craigo were killed and three other firefighters were injured when, for a cause still under investigation, the apparatus they were in left the narrow roadway and crashed into a rock wall. At the time, the firefighters were responding to a multiple fatality motor vehicle crash on the West Virginia Turnpike. Of the three firefighters injured, Fire Chief Timothy Walker remains in the hospital in critical condition; Firefighter Billy Hypes is in stable condition; and Firefighter Kyle Jenkins was released with minor injuries. HazMat Containment pools: A green duffle bag containing two orange Hazardous Material containment pools has been added to the rear coffin compartment of E83. Each of these pools are designed to be rolled out and hold up to 150 gallons of product. Please see the Chief or Capt. Duross is you have any questions.

Spring Cleaning Schedule: For the month of April please check the Spring Cleaning / Floor Waxing schedule in operations for daily assignments. The crew on that day is responsible for getting these tasks done on their shifts. Initial the tasks when complete. Any questions see Capt. Daniels. Thank you!
