Weekly Update for Friday, April 20, 2018

OPEN SHIFTS: MAY:  Mon 5/7 1900-0700 (Must be EMT). Tue 5/8 0700-1900.
----
Retirement:  With much regret, I have to announce that Deputy Chief Chad Johnston will be retiring from the GMFR on July 1st, following over 30-years of service. Chad started as a Junior in 1987.
Much of the progress this department has experienced over the years has been because of Chad's hardwork, dedication and professionalism. He has been a key figure in transitioning this organization from a private corporation to a municipal fire department. His contributions and foresight have made us a resilient and well prepared organization. Chad has been my Deputy and right-hand for over 6-years. I for one, will miss his advise and assistance.

Firefighter Near Miss: Moving Apparatus, Tight Quarters and Lots of People Can Create Hazards. The apparatus bay is a familiar place and one we like to spend time in. A quick exercise session, training, cleaning equipment—we log a lot of hours on the apparatus floor. Do we ever think it could be dangerous?
----
Replacing EPI-Pens with EPI-Kits: We are replacing the EPI-Pen auto-injectors with Curaplex EPI-Kits. Each ambulance's Red Bag Out of Drug Box pouches now contain an EPI-Kit. (The EPI Junior and Adult pens are available in those bags for another month, when they expire).
In service training is required on the new EPI-Kits. Please Captain Daniels for FF Gambino to get trained on the use of these kits (CEH's awarded!).
