Desk Box 85: Great job everyone who responded on Monday night's fire. No one got hurt, nothing broke. We managed to operate a master stream from dump tanks! We hauled about 17,500 gallons of water in a tanker shuttle.

New Hire: This morning the Fire Commission authorized me to hire Nicki Fowlie to fill our full-time vacancy; and Nicki has accepted. Nicki will become full-time on May 5th and will move to her permanent shift on May 23rd.

New Fire Danger Class Day site: The Maine Forest Service has set up a new site for posting the class day. mainefireweather.org It's a map of the State's 12 new forestry zones. We are in Zone 9. New weather stations are coming on-line. A site in Lyman will be on-line soon.

Forestry 87 Update: The new forestry pump mounted on Forestry 87 has been placed in service. Please familiarize yourself with it. We are still waiting on a few fittings to be able to use the 3" suction & strainer that is on 87, but it can be fed with a 2-1/2" hose or used with a 2-1/2" suction & strainer from another truck or can pump from the tank. Please make sure the fuel is turned off after use. FMI: Lt Johnston.

Firefighter Near Miss: Aerial Struck by Lightning: Fire crews were battling a fire at a large commercial structure when they learned a thunderstorm was imminent. They left their apparatus and sought shelter in a nearby warehouse just minutes before the aerial platform was struck by lightning.
