Residential Sprinklers: The Lyman Planning Board voted to require home sprinklers in all homes in any new or future subdivisions. This is a very forward thinking move on their part. I've attached a link to some You Tube videos that explain how this systems work and what they cost to install.

Bicycle Race: Sunday, August 26 the Iron Man bicycle race will be coming through town. Approximately 2500 participants. The route comes up Route 5, turns on ot River Rd, then onto South St. crossing Route 35 up South Waterboro Rd to Hamilton Rd. We are expecting riders from about 9am through 11 am.

Captain Vacancy: An application process has been posted to fill a vacant captain's position. Application deadline is Aug. 24. Application process is posted on the bulletin board.

Duty Officer: Beginning on Friday 9/7 at 1800, we will start the weekend duty officer rotation. An on-call duty officer will be available from 1800 on Friday until 1800 on Sunday. Officers will sign up for their shifts on the Google calendar "Duty Officer".

Firefighter Near Miss: Electric pole arcing causes flash burns and eye injury.
Sometimes the obvious hazard presented on the emergency scene isn’t the one that causes us harm. Fire crews respond to thousands of calls each year involving downed power lines, with expectations of facing possible electrocution or an electrically sparked fire. While working to mitigate these obvious hazards, the crew involved in this week’s report found out the hard way that they were exposed to danger of a different sort.
