MAINE FIREFIGHTER TRAINING FACILITIES: Today LD1845 became law! This is something I've waited for for my entire life as a Firefighter. This law provides funding for Maine Firefighter Training Facilities. Funding will be one million dollars per year for the next 10-years. This will allow for modernization to our existing facilities and creation of new ones. The Hollis facility will benefit directly from this new law.

FIREFIGHTER NEAR MISS: Vehicle Extrication with an Explosive Unknown Hazard.
This week’s ROTW highlights how easy it is sometimes to let our situational-awareness guard down. On-scene tactical support from a dedicated hazmat response team quickly averted what could have been a bad situation during this extrication. Extrication of the driver from the cab of an overturned semi-tractor trailer rolled over on its driver side. Our recon team discovered leaking diesel fuel from a saddle tank, "diked" with a dry substance used from the trailer that spilled its contents on the roadway, initially thought to be sand. It was actually fertilizer.
-----
CALL VOLUME:  As of 7/5, we've run 412 calls for service. We're 59 calls ahead of last year.
-----
BLOOD DRIVES: Next one is on Saturday, August 4th.  Robin Howard as volunteered to be our Blood Drive Coordinator. I'm sure she'd welcome some help. rhoward@gmfd.org
