It's Memorial Day weekend. Memorial Day is the day set aside to remember and honor those who died in defense of our Nation. I think that the perspective of this holiday can be summed up in this quote from General George Patton; "It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived."

I completed, successfully, the Fire Officer III/IV course. It was a great experience. We had a terrific instructor. I believe our instructor got as much of an education as we all did. He's a retired Chief Officer from Irvine, Texas. Maine and Texas aren't very much alike.
------
Parade: If you haven't already, please contact Capt Martin to help out with preparations for the parade. I believe line up is at 1200 on Monday.
------

Fire Academy Graduations: On June 18th at 1800 at the new Sanford High School we will be having a graduation ceremony for all York County Fire Academy graduates. The program requires Class A uniforms, or equivalent. All are invited to attend.
------
Basic Fire School: The BFS course got off to a good start on Wednesday. I want to thank everyone who has stepped up to make this go. Especially to Lt Steiner for getting it all organized.
------
Truck Checks: We've added the DOT pre-trip form to our truck checks. This form is on the Ipads, Data Trac form 25. This form is a required part of the truck checks. Not only will this form help to better prepare our vehicles for service, it will help you prepare for the CDL exam.
------
Per Diem Qualifications: A month ago I put out the word for those in a templeted or scheduled per diem shift, that 3 of our 4 skill sets will be required to hold that shift. Please, get your requirements completed before June 30th. If you are having trouble, have questions or concerns, please talk with Capt. Daniels or me now. Don't wait until the last minute.

day in and day out, it's what they are willing to do at any given moment."
